What's in it for you:

Trane Technologies is seeking an experienced Lead Refrigeration Systems Engineer to join our Trane Commercial Systems organization and responsible for all aspects of equipment design and component integration for Trane Commercial Water-to-Water product lines. This includes having the technical expertise to model system performance, support new technology projects, create system and subsystem DFMEA documentation, develop and lead product design, supervise product validation testing, and drive quality and reliability issues to root cause. This position interacts with other functional resource groups to support product design and integration, such as Compressor Engineering, Thermal Systems, Controls, Electrical, Manufacturing, etc. To be successful, this Lead Refrigeration Systems Engineer will need to collaborate closely with Chiller Engineering teams located in La Crosse, WI and Pueblo, CO along with support organizations located in Shanghai, China and Bangalore, India.

What you will do:

• Design and innovate HVAC refrigeration systems with a focus on achieving performance standards, meeting sustainability targets, complying with regulatory requirements, attaining quality goals, and adhering to cost targets.
• Lead projects, typically involving major system development consistent with the company gate review process, to plan, conduct, and coordinate engineering assignments, prepare schedules, report status to leadership, and meet project milestones.
• Create and execute computer models to simulate and predict unit performance. Analyze system issues using appropriate modeling tools and techniques. Where needed, collaborate with modeling and simulation specialists to develop new tools.
• Govern and lead design reviews through processes such as FMEA, DFMEA, DVP&R, and Risk Analysis.
• Create mechanical designs for systems and subsystems that leverage chiller and heat pump architecture and meet agency, code, structural, and serviceability requirements.
• Incorporate Design For Manufacturing (DFM) features to support efficient factory build processes.
• Develop laboratory test plans, conduct testing, analyze test data, including use of Six Sigma tools, statistical analysis techniques, and applying Design for Reliability principles, and interpret results and execute design updates based on the results.
• Evaluate complex, special, and advanced engineering tasks working independently as an expert with minimal supervision.
• Serve as subject matter expert on capabilities to improve existing systems and processes. Collaborate with and influence product teams to achieve common objectives.
• Provide intensive technical guidance and leadership to less experienced professionals or technicians and other team members.
• Develop and document HVAC system level modes, sequence of operations, and other system level control requirements.
• Provide key technical support in pursuit of Trane business, including participation on strategic job acquisition teams.
• Develop and/or update Trane purchased part Engineering Specifications.
• Support field and factory system problem resolution.
• Define, identify, and complete appropriate qualification testing activities.
• Guide overall component choices for system design employing industry wide best practices.
• Guide and drive short term resiliency challenges to reduce risk in the product portfolio.
• Effectively meet the needs of internal and external customers, through documenting, reviewing and prioritizing customer requirements.
• Ability to travel both domestically and abroad up to two weeks at a time. Able to attain the necessary visa for travel when applicable. Expected travel time ~ 10%.

What you will bring:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or a directly related discipline) and at least 10+ years of engineering work experience is required. Mechanical Engineering is preferred. Master's Degree in Engineering is a plus.
• HVAC engineering background in chilled and heating water systems.
• Experience with product design, bill of materials, engineering specifications, and product manufacturing. Understanding of HVAC system functions including refrigeration, heat transfer, airflow, and ventilation.
• Experience with application of various components used within HVAC systems such as coils, compressors, motors, and fans.
• Experience launching products that meet UL, CSA, or CE agency standards.  
• Understanding of statistics as applied to product reliability.
• Ability to apply heat transfer and fluid flow concepts for real world problem solving.
• Ability to efficiently understand, condense, and organize information necessary to make engineering decisions along with having the ability to be coached and mentored by Senior employees.
• Design or application experience with HVAC products, thermodynamic computations, pressure vessel design, compressor, motor, controls, or heat transfer technologies and understanding of Data & Analytics, making data driven decisions and programming knowledge is a plus.
• Strong technical skills with a natural technical curiosity and an enthusiasm to learn and develop new skills.
• Must have good verbal communications skills and good technical writing and documentation skills.
• Must be a self-starter with a high energy level and a high commitment to career.
• Must have the ability to understand, condense, and organize information necessary to make engineering decisions quickly and efficiently.

$123,721.66 - $173,004.99
