Position Summary:

As a Software Validation Engineer on the Software Validation team, you will be part of a team that designs and executes testing on engine software, pc-based engine diagnostic tool software, helm controller software, and android/iOS app software.  Strong documentation and communication skills are essential for this role. The ideal candidate must be able to collaborate closely with the software development team, clearly document and communicate issues, and contribute to troubleshooting and resolution efforts. Given Mercury’s diverse testing requirements, candidates must be adaptable and capable of transitioning between different projects and testing activities as business needs evolve.

Experience designing and implementing automated testing solutions is highly desirable. Candidates should also be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision, while also demonstrating the ability to collaborate effectively within small teams of two to three members to meet testing objectives and project deadlines.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases to validate embedded controllers, Windows-based applications, and mobile applications.
  • Perform regression, exploratory, integration, and system-level testing across a variety of software platforms and control systems.
  • Evaluate software functionality, accurately document defects, and communicate testing results and recommendations to the Software Engineering team.
  • Collaborate closely with Software Engineers to investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve issues identified during testing activities.
  • Conduct software and control system testing in both simulated laboratory environments and real-world marine applications to ensure performance, reliability, and quality.
  • Verify that software releases meet functional requirements, quality standards, and customer expectations prior to deployment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in software validation, system verification, or quality assurance within embedded, desktop, or mobile software environments.
  • Proficiency with software development and project management tools and practices, including issue tracking systems, technical requirements documentation, Gantt charts, Microsoft SharePoint, Azure DevOps, and source control repositories such as Subversion (SVN).
  • Experience validating embedded control systems, mobile applications, and/or Windows-based software applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly document test procedures, results, and identified issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to think at the system level, understanding the interaction between hardware, software, and end-user workflows to develop effective validation strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify, reproduce, and help resolve complex software and system-level issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining automated software testing frameworks and validation systems.
  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience with marine systems, boating applications, and/or internal combustion engine technologies.
  • Working knowledge of C, C#, and C++ programming languages with the ability to understand, analyze, and troubleshoot software behavior.
  • Experience using Vector CANalyzer, CANoe, or similar CAN bus analysis and network simulation tools.
  • Proficiency in Python for test automation, scripting, data analysis, and tool development.

Familiarity with CAN communication protocols and diagnostics commonly used in embedded and control systems environments.
