About us
Dyson is a global technology enterprise. We solve the problems others choose to ignore, with surprising new inventions that defy convention and simply work better. We’re driven by progress and thrive on the challenge of relentless improvement. We’re growing fast and our ambition is huge – more categories, more locations and more people.
Our scale and rapid growth make Dyson rich in new opportunities. We value new ideas and diverse perspectives, so our people are trusted with real work and responsibility from the outset. You’ll develop fast and have the chance to move into different business areas and regions. And you’ll be part of a global network of like-minded people – a community that supports and learns from each other.
Power Systems is a global RDD function that designs and develops Dyson’s internal technologies that enable most of our products. The team has experts in wide range of areas such as electromagnetic, mechanical, electrical, control algorithm, software, and project management.
Motor Drives and Advanced Control (MDAC) within Power Systems is responsible for the motor control, electromagnetic, system control, motor control software, and verifications. With over 100 experts globally, our team works from early development through to the production of our designs.
About the role
Dyson offers a unique opportunity for talented individuals to join its Research, Design and Development (RDD) function in Philippines as part of MDAC Team as a Motor Drives Engineer. He/she will be applying his/her skills and experience in Electrical Machines Design, Modelling and Simulation, and Power Electronics to deliver Motor Drives solution to our next generation Dyson technologies and products. You will be working as part of larger project team and some of your tasks could include:
- Support design, development, and implementation of motor control algorithm in both product and production as per project plan.
- Document motor control requirements, design guide, test method and implementation through Change Request.
- Review system verification results and provide feedbacks.
- Support design, commissioning and troubleshooting of complex production end of line test, tune, product calibration systems and functional testers as required by any new motor or product projects.
- Perform data analysis on production datalog, buy off and spot opportunities for process improvement & optimisation.
- Perform root cause analysis with documentation for the field return from MDAC perspective.
- Work with the Dyson Operation teams to be responsible for aspects of design, commissioning and troubleshooting of complex production end of line test, tune, product calibration systems and functional testers as required by any new motor or product projects.
- Be able to adapt and apply your skills to other areas of work and tasks within the business as may be required to benefit the wider team. This could include, but is not limited to, supplier liaison for issue resolution or audit, engineering design work, test rig building and production equipment commissioning.
Working alongside engineers, scientists, and technical experts across a broad range of disciplines, you’ll be comfortable learning from others but also sharing your own knowledge, ideas and opinions. In fact, we encourage this. For the duration of your programme, you will have regular performance conversations as well as opportunities for development to enable you to build your reputation within the team.
About you
Our engineering roles are competitive and delivering the next generation of Dyson technology is tough, so you will need to be:
- At least Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electronics or Mechatronics.
- Has knowledge and experience in range of aspects including electrical machine, motor control, power electronics, and analog/digital sensing technologies.
- Has knowledge and experience in MATLAB SIMULINK and or SPICE tools for motors.
- Has knowledge in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of Electrical machine and programming skill in either C, Python, Labview API, Matlab scripts, or code generation tools such as embedded coder.
- Strong Technical analysis skills and an ability to use standard laboratory equipment to set up experiments and to take precise measurements.
- Statistical analysis skills to be able to gather data from multiple sources, including your own testing, to calculate such things as trends, drifts, and probabilities to identify performance against specification or to show where things are starting to go wrong.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills to be able to form a bridge between multiple teams.
- Creative thinker and problem solver; highly self-motivated and self-reliant with enthusiasm for motors, power systems and Dyson products.
- Able to clearly report progress in meetings together with producing a high standard of documentation.
- Flexible and open-minded to respond quickly to changes in project priorities. Be able to demonstrate sound theoretical knowledge, reasoning, and problem-solving skills in engineering

Dyson is an equal opportunity employer. We know that great minds don’t think alike, and it takes all kinds of minds to make our technology so unique. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and employment decisions are made without regard to race, colour, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, protected veteran status or other any other dimension of diversity.
Dyson solves real-world problems and creates better products through the application of engineering, science, design and creativity. It is a family-owned, global technology company, founded by Sir James Dyson who remains at the helm alongside his son Jake. Since inventing the first cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner, the DC01, Dyson has consistently invested in research and development to improve its products and technologies radically. Dyson offers products across a growing range of areas: floorcare, air purification, robotics, haircare including formulations, lighting, hand drying, and most recently audio. Dyson continues to expand into new areas. Today, Dyson sells products in more than 80 markets, has 450 Dyson stores worldwide and is available in all major technology and beauty retailers. Dyson has global headquarters in Singapore and major technology campuses in Singapore, the UK, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Its global team of engineers, scientists and software developers are focused on developing technology-enabled products which work better and which people love to use. Key areas of focus have included high-speed electric digital motors, sensing and vision systems, robotics, machine learning and aerodynamics. Beyond products, to encourage an inventive future, Dyson is also inspiring the next generation of engineers and inventors through the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology, the James Dyson Foundation and the James Dyson Award. The Dyson family applies its problem-solving approach in other fields, and established Dyson Farming in 2012. It is one of the largest farming businesses in the UK, extending to 36,000 acres across Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset. It is a family-owned enterprise unlike any other, focussed on long-term investment in British farming and the countryside to grow tasty and nutritious food.
