From the design table to full project delivery

Citygreen intends to bring its installation business to the US, and we're hiring the person to lead it. You'll start as our technical voice on the West Coast: in design meetings with landscape architects and engineers, in front of city public works and urban forestry teams, and on site making sure our systems are built right. As installation comes to the US, this role is built to step into full project delivery: running installed projects, supervising subcontractors, and owning schedule and margin.

US$105,000 to US$130,000 base plus benefits, plus participation in Growth by Sharing.

If you're a landscape architect or landscape construction professional who has spent real time on site, and you'd rather shape projects and see them built than hand off drawings, this is the role.

About Citygreen

Citygreen designs and supplies engineered systems that let trees and stormwater infrastructure thrive in hard urban spaces, including StrataVault, StrataCell and DuraGrate. Our systems are specified by landscape architects, engineers and municipalities across North America and Australia. Our North American business is growing, and we need a technical lead on the ground.

The role

You'll be a valued member of the project consultancy team, alongside the landscape architect, the engineers and the city. You'll help shape designs before they're drawn, review what gets built, and hold the quality record.

You'll also be the most senior technical person in your time zone, with our head office in Sydney. That means making sound calls on your own and knowing which ones to escalate.

What you'll do

Design team and city consultancy

  • Sit in design team meetings with landscape architects and civil and stormwater engineers as Citygreen's technical voice, and help solve tree pit, soil volume and stormwater problems before they're drawn
  • Present to cities, including urban forestry, public works and stormwater teams, at design review and approval stage
  • Lead the technical side of specifier and client meetings alongside our sales team, from concept to bid
  • Deliver CPD and Lunch and Learn presentations to design firms and municipalities
  • Build relationships with specifiers and contractors in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle

Construction review and quality

  • Review installations against approved drawings: grades, dimensions, soil volumes, compaction, layering and connections
  • Own BuildPass review for all North American projects. Approve or reject evidence, raise non-conformances, and verify that corrective action holds
  • Keep the photographic and inspection record complete enough to defend a warranty claim

Pre-construction and coordination

  • Run pre-installation meetings with contractors covering sequencing, materials, tolerances and inspection points
  • Brief and, where needed, certify contractors who are new to Citygreen systems
  • Check drawing packages are buildable before they reach site, and send them back to our Design Studio when they aren't
  • Coordinate across engineers, utilities, and city public works and urban forestry departments, so conflicts are found on paper rather than in the trench
  • Answer technical questions from our sales team at design and specification stage

Requirements

What you'll bring

  • Credibility at the design table. You hold your own as a peer with landscape architects, engineers and city staff, contribute to design solutions, and present with confidence
  • 5+ years in the landscape industry, with training in landscape architecture, landscape technology or landscape construction. Civil construction backgrounds are also considered
  • Hands-on site experience: construction administration as a landscape architect, or supervision of landscape installation as a site superintendent, construction manager or contractor-side project manager
  • Practical knowledge of excavation, compaction, drainage and soil profiles, and how pavement, utilities and tree soil interact below ground. We'll test this at interview
  • Confidence reading and marking up landscape and civil plan sets: grades, sections, soil and drainage details, utilities and pavement build-ups
  • Experience directing landscape or civil crews and holding them to scope and quality
  • Accountability for schedule, change orders or margin on at least one real project
  • Clear written communication. Credible with designers, firm with contractors
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • A current driver's license, willingness to travel regularly along the West Coast, and occasionally to Canada and Australia

Nice to have

  • CLARB certification or a California landscape architect license
  • Experience with soil cells, structural soil or similar systems (Silva Cell, StrataVault or equivalent)
  • Urban tree planting and establishment: tree pits, structural soils, irrigation
  • A landscape architecture or landscape contractor network in LA, San Diego, San Francisco or Seattle
  • Knowledge of California contracting, licensing and municipal processes, or Caltrans standards
  • Construction QA platforms such as BuildPass or Procore
  • AutoCAD or Civil 3D viewing and markup
  • HubSpot or NetSuite experience

How we work

We hire for four things as much as for experience.

Hungry. You see the next problem on a project and go after it without being asked.

Humble. You give credit to the installers and the design team, take a drawing correction without defensiveness, and say early when something is going wrong.

Smart with people. You speak the specifier's language at design stage and the installer's language on site. You can tell a contractor their work isn't acceptable and keep the relationship.

Initiative under distance. You make sound calls alone and escalate the right things, not everything.

Benefits

What we offer

  • US$105,000 to US$130,000 base salary, depending on experience
  • Benefits package
  • Participation in Growth by Sharing
  • A clear path from technical lead into full project delivery as Citygreen brings installation to the US
  • Direct access to our leadership team, and a real say in how we grow in the US
