What's in it for you:

Trane Technologies is seeking a Refrigeration Systems Engineer II who will be a member of our Trane Commercial Systems organization and be responsible for all aspects of equipment design and component integration for Trane Commercial Water-to-Water Chiller and Heat Pump product lines, encompassing both heating and cooling functionalities. This includes modeling system performance, innovating new technology for future products, validating ideas and system performance in the laboratory.


This role interacts with other functional resource groups to support product design and integration, such as Compressor Engineering, Thermal Systems Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineer, Manufacturing, etc. To be successful, this Systems Design Engineer will need to collaborate closely with teams located in La Crosse, WI along with support organizations located in Shanghai, China and Bangalore, India.


What you will do:

  • Apply engineering knowledge to perform Chiller and Heat Pump Performance Modeling to simulate and predict unit performance.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks in the system design and development process and develop and implement effective risk mitigation plans.
  • Develop refrigeration subsystems that deliver innovative solutions for existing chiller and heat pump applications, meeting performance goals, regulatory requirements, and cost targets while expanding product offerings to address future cooling and heating needs.
  • Conduct new technology and new product development projects to improve the function, reliability, or cost of products and components.
  • Develop and improve tools and processes used for the design and integration of new components within our Commercial HVAC product lines for both heating and cooling.
  • Perform and document engineering analysis required to design, verify performance, and reliability of HVAC components and products.
  • Develop and execute laboratory tests to support product design, verification, and work with suppliers to obtain component designs that meet product requirements.
  • Work effectively across functional lines (development, production, design, marketing, suppliers)
  • Overnight travel (less than 10%).

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (BSME preferred) and at least 2-years of engineering work experience is required. Mechanical Engineering is preferred. Master's Degree in Engineering is a plus.
  • Proven success in helping conduct new technology and new product development projects to improve the function, reliability or cost of products and components.
  • Strong technical knowledge of refrigeration HVAC systems including system design, component selection, system optimization and testing
  • Experience with validation test plan development and execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and understand refrigeration system test data.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently understand, condense, and organize information necessary to make engineering decisions along with having the ability to be coached and mentored by senior employees.
  • Experience with product design, bill of materials, engineering specifications, and product manufacturing.
  • Have a quality and customer service orientation towards engineering design.
  • Resilient team player with the dual ability to work as a team player or a team leader. Ability to effectively communicate with others both written and orally.
  • Be a self-starter with a high energy level and a high commitment to career.
  • Ability to make progress by producing deliverables and completing projects in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Must be proficient in problem solving with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Design or application experience with HVAC products, thermodynamic computations, pressure vessel design, compressor, motor, controls, or heat transfer technologies and understanding of Data & Analytics, making data driven decisions and programming knowledge is a plus.

$65,200.00 - $93,660.00
